They have recently been hit by an EHV-1 outbreak that has so far claimed the lives of three horses. The virus can lead to abrtion of foals, neurological symptoms, paralysis and death. The testing costs $150+ per horse and treatment for the positive horses is $600+ per horse, not to mention the other vet bills that come alongside and the cost of sanitizing the barn every day.
